Post Anaesthesia Nurse Certification

ACPAN Level 1 Post Anaesthesia Nurse Certification is designed for practicing post anaesthesia nurses who would like to demonstrate their specialisation and compliance with the practice guidelines of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthesia (ANZCA) Statement PS04 (2018) and ACPAN Statements. The process is suitable for Division 1 Registered Nurses, with a minimum of 1-year full-time 1900 hours (or equivalent part-time) post-anaesthesia care unit (PACU) experience. Once the process is finalised you will be registered as a Certified Post Anaesthesia Nurse in the ACPAN register which is accessible on the ACPAN website and visible for the public.

Prerequisite

To be eligible for certification as a post anaesthesia nurse, the following essential criteria must be met:

  • ACPAN Clinical Criteria Statement signed by a consultant anaesthetist and clinical nurse or educator in PACU. FORM AVAILABLE HERE
  • ACPAN Experience Statement signed by employer and consultant anaesthetist: 1900 hours experience in PACU and emergency care competency. FORM AVAILABLE HERE
  • Reflective log Template Tool (minimum of 3) and Case Reports (from ACPAN APP) (minimum of 3). REFLECTIVE TOOL AVAILABLE HERE. Also, ACPAN APP LINK AVAILABLE HERE. (Use member login details to access APP)
  • Membership ACPAN.
  • AHPRA registration.

  • (1) Meet all pre-requisite requirements as listed in the ACPAN Education Guide; and

    (2) Undertake and pass the ACPAN Level 1 Post Anaesthesia Nurse Certification online exam at 80%
